If the assignment is published, students will be able to see the title of the assignment and the due date, but no other details about the assignment. When they click on the assignment before it’s available, students will see a note that says “This assignment is locked until [date you set].” Important note: Canvas will not automatically publish the assignment on the date you make it available. You have to publish the assignment for students to see it. If you want to keep students from working on the assignment until a certain date, your best bet is to publish all assignments as soon as you have them ready, but put an availability date on it so that students won’t see the details until you want them to start working on it. Please note: you are not required to put any dates on an assignment; due dates and “available from” and “until” dates are optional. If you choose to put an “available until” date on the assignment, the students will be able to see the details after that date, but will no longer be able to submit assignments.
